My art calendar is rapidly filling up. The Florida "season" is upon us kicking off with an opening of a new "Realism" group exhibition at the Woodfield Fine Art Gallery on Sat., Oct. 13 as part of the Second Saturday Artwalk in downtown St. Petersburg. I will be showing my latest piece, "The Visitors," a 30" x 40" oil painting as well as two other works. Hope you can stop by for an evening of art & wine!



Also coming up is a day-long workshop at the Indian Rocks Beach Art Center on Oct. 26th. Come join me for a day of "mixing it up" literally in paint! I will explore mixing a wide range of colors using a limited palette. I will also demonstrate the use of various brushes and bold strokes to achieve greater spontaneity in your work. Whether painting in the studio or "en plein air," this workshop will help sharpen your skills!

A long-range project is in the works for next April. My husband John, also an artist, and I have been invited to have an exhibition of our work at the The Studio at Gulf & Pine in Anna Maria Island. The space is marvelous and quite large. What a wonderful opportunity to show our work together in this beautiful setting! Knowing how time flies, it's not too early to get busy in the studio!

On the Easel Currently working on quite a large piece featuring several figures. It's a slow process, developing each figure by first laying in the tones with bristle brushes, then repeating the process again with softer brushes. I've been working on this one now for a few weeks. Before beginning this painting, I made some new changes to my studio, adding a large monitor screen to better view my reference photos. Above are some progressive photos of my progress thus far. Standing up at the easel is very tiring. I simply cannot paint in a seated position. I often loose track of how long I've been on my feet because I'm so absorbed in painting. Thankfully I took a gym break today (as I do most days) to do some yoga. It felt wonderful and energized me to work on the piece a bit more later. new monitor

Wow! Where does the time go?? Just realized I haven’t entered a blog post since Christmas! I hope the New Year finds everyone doing well. My year is off to a busy stART. Yes, ART, features front and center in 2019 for this author. I began a new piece in early January and am nearing completion of it. It measures 30 x 40 and is a complex composition featuring several people. Here are some progressive photos of the painting process from beginning to where it is now. It’s been a very challenging piece, but I am pleased with the way it’s progressing.  In addition to my studio work, I am also teaching a painting class at the Beach Art Center in Indian Rocks Beach, FL. It began in January and continues through the end of March. “Simple Steps to Painting Success” is offered on Thursday mornings from 9am to noon. This past Friday I had the pleasure to work with a delightful group who attended my "Capture the Moment" painting workshop. The class took place at the Beach Art Center (BAC) in Indian Rocks Beach, FL. The center is spacious, bright and cheerfully decorated with member's colorful & skillfully done artworks. It was my pleasure to share my painting techniques with this enthusiastic group, who plunged into the day's exercises with gusto. Because my work focuses on the figure, I selected an image I'd taken of one of my models for student's to use as a reference photo for their paintings. The day was divided into three sections, with artist's demos at each stage before moving ahead to the next step. Each class member had a finished painting by day's end.
