 Studio News- My latest painting entitled, "Crossroads at Twilight" was inspired by evening walks in my Bayou Highlands neighborhood. The figures in the foreground were purely "artistic invention." I included them to heighten the mood of the piece. I love the way the palm trees and other foliage take on a glow just before sunset. It was early September when I shot reference photos and the skies were particularly dramatic.

The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts- I have some exciting personal news to share regarding this amazing museum located at 255 Beach Drive NE in St. Petersburg, Fl. I am training to become a 6th grade docent for the MFA! This exciting program connects the museum collection to the state curriculum students learn at school. Since its inception in 2012, it has served over 31,000 students! What a great bridge to join art and community! Training continues through January and our first tours begin later that month.

On the Easel Currently working on quite a large piece featuring several figures. It's a slow process, developing each figure by first laying in the tones with bristle brushes, then repeating the process again with softer brushes. I've been working on this one now for a few weeks. Before beginning this painting, I made some new changes to my studio, adding a large monitor screen to better view my reference photos. Above are some progressive photos of my progress thus far. Standing up at the easel is very tiring. I simply cannot paint in a seated position. I often loose track of how long I've been on my feet because I'm so absorbed in painting. Thankfully I took a gym break today (as I do most days) to do some yoga. It felt wonderful and energized me to work on the piece a bit more later. new monitor

This past Friday I had the pleasure to work with a delightful group who attended my "Capture the Moment" painting workshop. The class took place at the Beach Art Center (BAC) in Indian Rocks Beach, FL. The center is spacious, bright and cheerfully decorated with member's colorful & skillfully done artworks. It was my pleasure to share my painting techniques with this enthusiastic group, who plunged into the day's exercises with gusto. Because my work focuses on the figure, I selected an image I'd taken of one of my models for student's to use as a reference photo for their paintings. The day was divided into three sections, with artist's demos at each stage before moving ahead to the next step. Each class member had a finished painting by day's end. I was delighted with the results! Everyone did a great job and their paintings reflected their own style while incorporating the techniques we'd focused on. Kudos to this talented group! I t

Wow! Where does the time go?? Just realized I haven’t entered a blog post since Christmas! I hope the New Year finds everyone doing well. My year is off to a busy stART. Yes, ART, features front and center in 2019 for this author. I began a new piece in early January and am nearing completion of it. It measures 30 x 40 and is a complex composition featuring several people. Here are some progressive photos of the painting process from beginning to where it is now. It’s been a very challenging piece, but I am pleased with the way it’s progressing.  In addition to my studio work, I am also teaching a painting class at the Beach Art Center in Indian Rocks Beach, FL. It began in January and continues through the end of March. “Simple Steps to Painting Success” is offered on Thursday mornings from 9am to noon.
